Common sites for GISTs are the stomach (55% chance), duodenum and small intestine (30% chance), esophagus (5% chance), rectum (5% chance) and colon (2% channce). Sometimes primary GISTs may develop in the supporting membranes of the abdominal organs (peritoneum, mesentery, omentum), the liver, pancreas, ovaries, uterus and prostate.
